Da Alighiero in Anghiari, run by a beautiful German gal named Sylvia. Very nice atmosphere, fantastic eating, a bit higher priced than most places around here, but really high quality of cooking and care for her customers. Love her.
Cantina del Granduca in Anghiari. Alessandro and Paola have really done a great job in restoring a suggestive old tavern (which just happens to be the old cantina of our townhouse: Palazzo Taglieschi ... have you seen it? Click here to take a look.) in the heart of the old castle town of Anghiari. They offer a delicious menu of local dishes, slightly refined to current taste, and a stupendous selection of Tuscan wines (and not only ...). Consider it "a must"!
Cinzia’s in Caroni, everything Sylvia is, Cinzia isn’t! Her hair and her plates are a mess. The lighting is bright enough to land planes in heavy fog and it’s really hit or miss if she is going to be open on a particular day. However, she is a great personality, the food is abundant and good, prices are low. Two thumbs up!
Taverna Toscana, just at the bottom of the driveway. New establishment, really good eating, big portions, very local fare, a bit pricey but well worth it.
Il Rifugio in Lama. The antipasto is about 5 different plates of variations of three ingredients, mushrooms, cheese and bread. I never tire of it. This is the place that has lots of truffle dishes. The great dish of the place is the tagliata, thin sirloin seared with shaved truffle, olive oil and juniper berries.
Pizzeria il Boschetto in Caprese. Best pizza around, they even have a pizza Priello! I use to sell them sheep’s cheese, so that’s what they put on the pizza. They have 100 pizza’s!
Castello di Sorci, just outside of Anghiari. A huge old farmhouse, quite busy and loud with tables occasionally breaking into song. You just sit down and they start bringing the food, there are no choices, but it’s all great eating. There is a headless ghost which is reportedly seen on occasion.
